Integration & Recovery
From Upright to Supported Positions
The transition into this phase often begins in seated forward folds before moving to the floor. This provides a gradual shift from upright load-bearing positions to more supported ones.
As the body lowers, the relationship between the hips, spine, and breath becomes clearer. Movement can be refined with less effort, allowing patterns established earlier in the session to stabilise.
Maintaining Support Through the Trunk
Although the body is supported, the trunk remains active. Simple movements such as knee-to-chest and controlled hip actions help maintain connection through the core without creating unnecessary strain.
This allows the spine to remain supported while reducing overall effort.
This phase shifts the body from active work towards integration. While the positions are more supported, the sequence continues to organise how the trunk and spine work together.
It does not simply “wind down” the session. It allows the effects of earlier work to settle while maintaining enough engagement to support the spine.
Mobility Without Forcing Range
Positions that explore hip and pelvic movement continue to play a role here. Movements such as reclining hip work and gentle twists help redistribute tension without forcing depth.
The emphasis remains on coordination - allowing the hips and spine to move together more effectively.
Settling the System
As the sequence progresses, the balance gradually shifts towards stillness. Supported positions allow the breath to deepen and the system to settle, without abruptly dropping into complete rest.
This creates a smoother transition into final relaxation, where the body can absorb the work that has been done.
What This Changes
Over time, this phase improves how the body transitions between effort and rest. The spine remains supported, tension reduces more efficiently, and recovery becomes more effective.
This phase allows the body to move from effort into recovery, without losing support.
It is an essential part of how we complete the session in our Spine & Hip practice.
